Olympia Power & Light is a new in-print newspaper for everyone in Olympia. We publish fortnightly (that’s every two weeks, people) on Wednesdays.

Our goal is to become the go-to source for Olympia-centric information. When you want to find out what’s going on in our community, you can read our newspaper and then experience, engage, or participate in everything our city has to offer. You can also enjoy the news and fun stuff we offer every fortnight.

Look for Olympia Power & Light in every cool place in town:

• Book stores
• College campuses
• Funky stores
• Theaters
• And any place people sit and read or chat

Letters

We will print most anything sent to us as a letter. That could include your responses to things we’ve published, your opinions on current events, your take on Olympia, or your joys and sorrows and screeds.

There are a few rules. We will edit for swearing, length, clarity, and spelling. If we can’t make heads or tails of it, we will not publish it. If it contains unverifiable accusations or factual errors, we will not publish it.

Essentially, you should strive for clarity where possible, cite facts where necessary, keep it less than 300 words, and bear with us if we have to change something.

Reviews

Put the “You” in review!

Here at OPL, we plan to review lots of things: restaurants, bars, bands, plays, art, books, coffee shops, movies, lectures, stores, blogs, government meetings, and more. We’ll only review local stuff – a movie made by local filmmakers, for example, not nationally-released flicks.

For our part of the review, we’ll tell you what you can buy or see or do there, what the atmosphere of the place is like, who else hangs out there, how much it costs, and so on.

But we don’t want to tell you whether it’s good or bad. No stars or forks. After all, who are we to tell you what’s best? We’re not your mom. We don’t make all your decisions for you. And besides, we don’t like to be judgmental. That’s where you come in.

Each issue, we’ll list a few places or things we plan to review in upcoming issues. You go there or go get it or check it out (if you haven’t already), then tell us what you think. We’ll print your thoughts as part of the review. Which means you’ll really be telling the whole world what you think. (We reserve the right to edit out stuff that is offensive or completely stupid.)
