Join avid hiker and outdoors writer and photographer Craig Romano for a talk about his favorite winter hikes and a look at his “Winter Hikes of Western Washington Deck,” published by The Mountaineers Books and available for purchase at the program. The talk takes place on Saturday, February 20 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Olympia Timberland Library.
Dubbed “a portable way to hit the winter trails,” the deck features 60 cards with route descriptions and maps. The deck includes 13 hikes that haven’t been published before. Hikes range from low-land routes and rainforest rambles, to coastal tramps and protected peaks. They vary in length and difficulty and include destinations for families with young children and pets. An index of hikes and information on winter flora and fauna are also included.
Romano is the author of “Day Hiking: Central Cascades,” “Day Hiking: North Cascades,” “Best Hikes with Dogs Inland Northwest” and other titles. He’s written for many publications and is co-creator of Hikeoftheweek.com. His Web site is www.craigromano.com. Romano lives in Mount Vernon.
