(UPDATED!)
Thank you all for coming last Friday, we had an amazing time and a wonderful event.
After a couple of night’s sleep and many, many follow-up conversations with excited and grateful people, I am ready to put some words together for everyone.
Here is a link to the official Thank You page I created to say Thanks! to everyone involved!
BUDGET:
We had a budget of about $1500 for the event, and ended up needing every penny, but not going over. We received the money from some great local organizations and supporters, thank you all.
The money went to renting the tables, chairs and linen, the porta potties and the stage and sound.
Of, course we had to pay a permit fee to the city and had some colleteral expenses for various little things, like hand sanitizers and forks. Marketing

didn’t cost us anything, cause MIXX96 sponsored the air time, and we used Everyday Olympia, facebook, twitter and many local mailing lists to distribute the event.
TIMELINE:
We first got the idea in early May. So, it took us about 2 month from the early planning stages to setting the event up and running it.
PEOPLE:
We had a great team of people that were excited and put many hours into this. Thank you, we couldn’t have done it without you!
We set a table for 200 and counted roughly 400-500 people showing up over the course of the 4 hours, amazing!

WASTE:
Yeah, we aimed for a waste-free event and we succeeded. The 400-500 people created one big bag of trash. 1 1/2 bags of food waste, 1 bag of recycling and some cardboard. I took it home and was able to put it in my home trash/recycling. Done!
FUTURE:
You all have been asking me: “What’s next?” You’ve been encouraging me to continue it annually, monthly or even weekly.
My answer is: YES!
We will have another community event. When? Don’t know yet. Will we do the same? Probably not. I enjoy pushing the envelope for myself and dreaming up different things – this keeps it interesting. If you want to stay in the loop of what I’m up to email me at mathias@1×1olympia.com and I will let you know what’s we’re planning next and if you have any great ideas yourself, swing by my store and let’s chat!
Here are a couple of great picture galleries of the event: MIXX96.1 and epersonae on flickr.
If you want to be part of the conversation, be sure to join us for our next Downtown Together meeting and send us your ideas at the forum
