Here we are.
As one era of leadership and ideology is coming to an end, we’re looking at the dawn of a new age. The expectations are sky-high for America’s new President Barak Obama and he hasn’t made a secret out of the challenge that lies ahead. His voice has been reassuring but sobering, giving confidence in his leadership while at the same time calling us to service and telling America to grow up.

Today is a new day and there is time to celebrate, breathe and enjoy the moment. President Obama staff is already at work and the first 100 days will be very exciting to watch and to see how Obama is able to bring change to this country not just during stump speeches on the campaign trail but out of the oval office.
My facebook entry this morning was: “That’s why I came to America.”
America has always inspired people to go out of their way and do their absolute best. It’s not the promised land but a land full of promises and what we call America in Germany: The Land of Endless Possibilities”.
8 years ago I was sitting in Germany waiting for my greencard to clear and watching with my wife the election result. Head-shaking I was following as the most powerful democray on earth was incapable of counting paper ballots and wondering to myself what I would let myself get into. Yes, I got to know a side of America that Hollywood was able to hide from the outside spectator. And 2004 I jokingly made the empty thread that I would leave if Bush got reelected.
Well, I’m still here. This country has grown on me, and now, like so many immigrants before me, it is my home. We’re raising two awesome Kids and we own our own business – what’s next the picket fence and the dog?
We love the place we’re at: Olympia, a city full of beauty and potential and people that are excited to do the right thing and take President Obama’s call and roll up their sleeves and do their part of making America beautiful again. A beacon of light in the world. That’s what I want to be part of!
